October is team building month at Kaslo Search and Rescue!Last night's training was a little different from our usual Monday evenings, with the team putting their problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills to the test through a series of fun challenges and brain games.There was plenty of laughter, some friendly competition, and even a rather awkward team photo shoot! 📸😂While the activities might have been a little silly, the skills behind them are an important part of working together when it matters most.A great evening of teamwork and fun with a great crew!

Throwback Thursday is to a recent training evening, where the team learned more about how the canine team works and the do's and don'ts of assisting the canine team on searches. We are proud to say, our Search dog, Kibou, has successfully competed her annual Wilderness Air Scent and Tracking validations this Fall!
Three members of the team spent 4 late September days in class, and additional days on homework, completing the Small Vessel Operator training. Three more members completing this boat captain's course helps us ensure our boat, Platypus, is always available whenever the call comes out! Follow along on an evening multi-discipline (Drone & Canine) training!
Last week, the team was called out to rescue a small group of lost hikers, caught in a mountain snow storm. With limited remaining daylight, areas of low cloud cover, snow storms in the mountains and heavy rain in the valleys, a helicopter team was deployed while a contingency quad team, teamed up with Arrow Lakes SAR, was sent by ground. Thankfully, the helicopter crew was able to locate and extricate the hikers, saving everyone from what would have been a long, late and wet rescue by ground!
Throwback Thursday is to a 2 day task earlier this year, and a reminder of just how many resources and teams come together as needed. This task involved members from around the region and helicopter, drone & pilot, boat & crew, rafts, swiftwater members, ground searchers, canine team and a full command staff, all working together to provide professional volunteer services.
Recently, one of our members completed an annual Regional Mountain Rescue training week with members from around the region! Thankfully the timing worked out for clear, sunny skies!
This week, team training focused on orientations for the newer members, and more practice with the vacuum mattress and splints! Super productive evening for all 🙂
This week, some of our drone team got together for a day of training, where the drone trainees learned about the care and operation of the drone, gained experience seeing how it is used to search terrain and how to assist the operator. We look forward to growing our team of pilots once our trainees work through the training requirements!
